  2. Writing • The Egyptian’s writing paper was made from Cyprus papyrus. • There was no paper to write on until the Egyptians invented it. • Cyprus papyrus is a tree. • The Egyptians used hieroglyphics. • Hieroglyphics were mainly used for religious texts or royal texts. • Were generally carved in stone. • Many of the Egyptian’s 720 hieroglyphics were nouns and the vowels weren’t written out.

  3. Boats on the Nile • Boats were mainly used to transport cargo. • Their cargo ranged from obelishs to cattle. • The boats were very long and took many people to row them.

  4. Pyramids • Stone saws were used to build pyramids. • Pyramids were the tombs for the dead. • Were made so tough and tight that not a tornado nor a hurricane can blow them down 400 years later.

  5. Clocks and Time • Had sundials which required sun to work so they made the water clock. • The water clock is a device that uses water to measure time. • Their calendar was 365 days, 10 days a week, 3 weeks per month, 4 months in a season, and a 3 season year.

  6. Tools • The first tools used were made out of copper and then changed to using bronze tools. • After using bronze tools for a while, the they changed to iron tools. • These tools were used to build pyramids. • Stone saws were also used to build pyramids. • When the blade was held steady, you could make parallel cuts. • Minerals such as beryl, topaz, chrysoberyl, corundum, sapphire, or diamond were used as cutting points because they were so strong.
