  1. Length, Area and Volume Ratios

  2. Length Ratios • How many dimensions is length? • What are some examples of lengths that we measure in polygons and solids? • We have already been quizzed on length ratios…for example a to b would be written as?

  3. Area Ratios • How many dimensions is area? • What are some examples of areas that we measure in polygons and solids? • So the ratios of two areas can be written as…

  4. Volume Ratios • How many dimensions is volume? • What are some examples of volumes that we measure in solids? • So volume ratios are written as…

  5. Summary – Length, Area and Volume Ratios • For any two similar figures with corresponding lengths a and b, the ratios are as follows:

  6. Example 1 • The ratio of the circumferences of two circles is 5:7. • Find the ratio of their radii • Find the ratio of their areas • If the area of the smaller circle is 87.5 ft2, what is the area of the larger circle?

  7. Example 2 • Two pyramids are similar. The volume of one pyramid is 216ft3 and the volume of the second is 512ft3. • What is the ratio of their volumes? • What is the ratio of their heights? • What is the ratio of their base areas?
