  2. Why AI? “Artificial Intelligence is used in many aspects of life, as any computer system that makes automatic decisions is considered artificial intelligence” (Funk).

Applications of Artificial Intelligence • Medical • Army • Computer Science • Finance • Communication • Robotics   "In from three to eight years,  we'll have a machine with the  general intelligence of an average human being...  a machine that will be able to  read Shakespeare [or] grease a car” (Minsky).

Founding Fathers • Norbert Wiener was one of the first Americans to make observations on the principle of feedback theory. • What was so important about his research into feedback loops was that Wiener theorized that all intelligent behavior was the result of feedback mechanisms Norbert Wiener

Founding Fathers • Gave AI it’s name • the inventor of the LISP programming language and one of the pioneers of artificial intelligence (AI) • McCarthy developed Lisp in between 1956 and 1958, when he was trying to build an algebraic list processing language for artificial intelligence work . • He was seeking to compute with symbolic expressions rather than numbers, and use this to build AI systems.   6. Past Inventions & Theories Norbert Wiener invented the Feedback Theory. Feedback Theory has helped link human intelligence with machines. The common example the thermostat (Oracle Thermaquest)

  7. Alan Turing Alan Turning presented the first theoretical machine. The theoretical machine helped solve any problem that humans went through in the 1960’s (Watson).

  8. The Era of The Computer Electronic Computer 1941 • Revolutionized aspect of storing and processing information. • Developed in US and Germany. • Invention of electronic means of processing data created a new media which made AI possible. US & Germany (The History of AI)
