  3. Our Program • Athletics at Los Gatos play an integral part in the school program. The sports program is committed to the physical, emotional, social, and mental development of all who participate. • Participation in sports is a privilege; athletes are expected to exhibit the highest level of conduct on and off the field.

Mission Statement The Los Gatos High School Sports Medicine staff is responsible for providing the highest quality health care to all student-athletes including those visiting from other high schools. This responsibility includes guiding student-athletes through their athletic endeavors safely and efficiently through quality health care that encompasses education, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. The sports medicine staff utilizes guidelines set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as well as the California Interscholastic Federation and the National Federation of State High School Associations. The sports medicine staff is responsible for making critical decisions for medical aspects of athletic participation while keeping the athlete’s safety and overall wellbeing as the highest priorities. Other responsibilities include communication between physicians, parents, coaches, and our strength and conditioning coach in regards to injury evaluation, management, and return to play criteria. The sports medicine staff at Los Gatos High School includes a certified athletic trainer and team physicians. Other medical specialists may be used on a referral basis based on recommendations from the certified athletic trainer or team physicians.

Concussion Management • Baseline Testing (IMPACT computerized test) • Concussion Protocol • Must see physician within 72 hours of injury • Athlete must check in daily (symptom evaluation) • 48 hours symptom free before Return to Play protocol begins • Return to Play Protocol • CIF mandated 7 day protocol • Final physician clearance before Stage 3 returning to competition

Sports Registration • All Students must register for each sport they play at https://www.athleticclearance.com/login.php • Get a physical (form online) Dated after 6/1 each year • Minute Clinic at CVS allows for walk in physicals $50-60 • Upload physical online or bring to the Athletic Director or Stacey Caro in house #3 • You will then be cleared remotely and the head coach will have an app that tells them if the athletes is cleared or not.

  14. Eligibility • 2.0 GPA • Enrolled in 4 classes • Pass at least 4 classes • Registered with Athletic Clearance • Valid Physical on file in Athletic Deparment • Transfer clearance – if ever attended a different high school

Athletic Code of Conduct • Possession of / under the influence of drugs, tobacco or alcohol can result in dismissal from team during the season of sport. • No Student may have a ”cut” on the day of a contest • School Discipline affect athletics • Sportsmanship is a top priority • Ejection Policy

  16. PE Credit • All Freshman take PE • Sophomores may play a sport in lieu of taking PE • Fall and Winter - 1st semester • Spring – 2nd Semester • PE Department Chair: Sean Cummings scummings@lgsushd.org

Winter Sport to Spring Sport Try Outs • All Athletes in a winter sport will be given their own try out once their Winter Sport is complete • Most Winter sports finish in mid February for FS and JV and beginning of March for Varsity • Please contact the coach of the spring sport your athlete will be trying out for now so that your coach can plan accordingly.

SCVAL Admission Rule • During the Spring Season we charge entrance for Boys Volleyball games as mandated by the SCVAL: • General (Adult) Admission $6 for Volleyball • High School students, seniors and children 6-12 • $3 for Volleyball • Children 5 and under FREE • Students who purchases and ASB pass-FREE • We also charge for Football, Girls Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball and Wrestling

Uniforms • Option 1-School Issued Uniforms • Coaches responsible for distributing and collecting • Option 2-Parent Purchased Uniforms • Some programs choose to buy their own uniforms to keep • Above and beyond average uniform, • Student names on back • Students responsible for keeping their uniforms • Financial assistance provided for students who cannot purchase uniform if option 2 is being used.

  21. Parent/Coach Communication Athlete • Athlete should approach the coach first regarding an issue Parent • Start with the coach by setting up an appointment • Please do not confront a coach prior to, during, or after a practice or contest • If not satisfied, set up an appointment with the Athletics Director • Playing time is not a topic for discussion

  22. Participation Donation • We ask each family to donate $200 for each sport that an athlete plays • You can pay by check (payable to LGHS) or • Online- Through the LGHS student store https://lghs.myschoolcentral.com • Participation in athletics is not contingent upon any payment or donation.

  23. LOS GATOS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS FUNDING How many athletes and teams compete for Los Gatos? 1100+ athletes on 57 teams • What does LGSUHSD typically fund? • Coaching stipends and school facility costs only What does LGHS ASB typically fund? Everything else our teams need to compete

LOS GATOS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATON • The LGAA helps with supplemental funding for all of our athletic programs • Uniforms (above and beyond the basic provided by ASB) • Additional Equipment and Facilities upgrades • Coaches Stipends for extra coaches above allotment from Appendix C • Weight Room Maintenance and Upgrades • Summer activities including camps • Additional Awards • Travel Expenses for overnight tournaments and competitions • Any additional unmet needs that the ASB cannot cover

  25. Transportation • Each Head Coach decides how they want to get to and from each contest. • Each bus cost about $800-$1400 for a roundtrip • We provide buses for any of our teams who ask for them • We ask smaller teams to use the 4 vans we have available to our teams • Parent Carpools are very helpful in defraying to cost of transportation • Carpool Form available in gym lobby • Athletes cannot drive other students to and from any contests • In emergency situations an athlete can drive themselves to a contest but we try to avoid this when ever possible.
