  14. La'asok B'divrei Torah Blessing Before The Reading Of The Torah

  15. Parsha • We’re going to read… • Torah… Genesis 28:10-end of chapter • Haftarah… Hosea 13 whole chapter • Brit Hadasha… Matthew 16 whole chapter • But before we read, why do we stand to read the Scriptures?

  16. Parsha Because that’s the way it was done in the first century Synagogue. How can we know such a thing??? For many reasons, but most importantly… Because we read in the Brit Hadasha (New Testament) that’s what Yeshua did! Time and time again we see in the Gospels verses such as this one in Luke Luke 4:14-16

  17. Parsha Luke 4:14-16 14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. 16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. “Jesus didn’t follow any Jewish customs!”

  18. Parsha In other passages you find they sat down to teach… KJV John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. That was the custom!

  19. Gen 28 10-22 10 Ya'akov went out from Be'er-Sheva and traveled toward Haran. 11 He came to a certain place and stayed the night there, because the sun had set. He took a stone from the place, put it under his head and lay down there to sleep.

  20. Gen 28 10-22 12 He dreamt that there before him was a ladder resting on the ground with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of ADONAI were going up and down on it.

  21. Gen 28 10-22 13 Then suddenly ADONAI was standing there next to him; and he said, "I am ADONAI, the God of Avraham your [grand]father and the God of Yitz'chak. The land on which you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants.

  22. Gen 28 10-22 14 Your descendants will be as numerous as the grains of dust on the earth. You will expand to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. By you and your descendants all the families of the earth will be blessed. 15 Look, I am with you. I will guard you wherever you go, and I will bring you back into this land, because I won't leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

  23. Gen 28 10-22 16 Ya'akov awoke from his sleep and said, "Truly, ADONAI is in this place - and I didn't know it!" 17 Then he became afraid and said, "This place is fearsome! This has to be the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!" 18 Ya'akov got up early in the morning, took the stone he had put under his head, set it up as a standing-stone, poured olive oil on its top

  24. Gen 28 10-22 19 and named the place Beit-El [house of God]; but the town had originally been called Luz. 20 Ya'akov took this vow: "If God will be with me and will guard me on this road that I am traveling, giving me bread to eat and clothes to wear,

  25. Gen 28 10-22 21 so that I return to my father's house in peace, then ADONAI will be my God; 22 and this stone, which I have set up as a standing-stone, will be God's house; and of everything you give me, I will faithfully return one-tenth to you.“ END

  26. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 1 "When Efrayim spoke, there was trembling; he was a power in Isra'el. But when he incurred guilt through Ba'al, he died. 2 So now they keep adding sin to sin, casting images from their silver; idols they invent for themselves, all of them the work of craftsmen. 'Sacrifice to them,' they say. Men give kisses to calves!

  27. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 3 Therefore they will be like a morning cloud, like the dew that disappears early, like chaff blown by wind from the threshing-floor, or like smoke that goes out the window. 4 Still, I am ADONAI your God, from the land of Egypt; and you don't know any God but me or, other than me, any Savior.

  28. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 5 I knew you in the desert, in a land of terrible drought. 6 When they were fed, they were satisfied; when satisfied, they became proud. Therefore they forgot me. 7 So now I have become like a lion to them; like a leopard I will lurk by the road;

  29. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 8 I will meet them like a bear whose cubs have been taken away. I will tear their hearts from their bodies. I will devour them there like a lion, like a wild animal ripping them up. 9 It is your destruction, Isra'el, although your help is in me.

  30. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 10 So now, where is your king, to save you in all your cities? Where are your judges, of whom you said, 'Give me a king and leaders'? 11 I gave you a king in my anger; and in my fury I took him away. 12 "Efrayim's guilt has been wrapped up, his sin is stored away.

  31. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 13 The pain of being born will come to him; but he is an unwise son. The time has come; and he shouldn't delay, there at the mouth of the womb. 14 Should I ransom them from the power of Sh'ol? Should I redeem them from death? 15 Where are your plagues, death; where is your destruction, Sh'ol? My eyes are closed to compassion. For though he flourishes among the reeds, an east wind will come, a wind from ADONAI, blowing up from the desert. Then his water source will dry up, then his spring will fail it will plunder his treasury, removing every precious thing."

  32. Hosea 13 whole Chapter 16 Shomron will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword, their little ones will be dashed to pieces and their pregnant women ripped open. END

  33. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 1 Then some P'rushim and Tz'dukim came to trap Yeshua by asking him to show them a miraculous sign from Heaven. 2 But his response was, "When it is evening, you say, `Fair weather ahead,' because the sky is red;

  34. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 3 and in the morning you say, `Storm today!' because the sky is red and overcast. You know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can't read the signs of the times!

  35. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 4 A wicked and adulterous generation is asking for a sign? It will certainly not be given a sign -- except the sign of Yonah!" With that he left them and went off.

  36. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 5 The talmidim, in crossing to the other side of the lake, had forgotten to bring any bread. 6 So when Yeshua said to them, "Watch out! Guard yourselves against the hametz of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim,"

  37. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 7 they thought he said it because they hadn't brought bread. 8 But Yeshua, aware of this, said, "Such little trust you have! Why are you talking with each other about not having bread?

  38. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 9 Don't you understand yet? Don't you remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you filled? 10 Or the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many baskets you filled?

  39. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 11 How can you possibly think I was talking to you about bread? Guard yourselves from the hametz of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim!" 12 Then they understood -- they were to guard themselves not from yeast for bread but from the teaching of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim.

  40. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 13 When Yeshua came into the territory around Caesarea Philippi, he asked his talmidim, "Who are people saying the Son of Man is?" 14 They said, "Well, some say Yochanan the Immerser, others Eliyahu, still others Yirmeyahu or one of the prophets."

  41. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 15 "But you," he said to them, "who do you say I am?" 16 Shim`on Kefa answered, "You are the Mashiach, the Son of the living God."

  42. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 17 "Shim`on Bar-Yochanan," Yeshua said to him, "how blessed you are! For no human being revealed this to you, no, it was my Father in heaven. 18 I also tell you this: you are Kefa," [which means `Rock,'] "and on this rock I will build my Community, and the gates of Sh'ol will not overcome it.

  43. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 19 I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven." 20 Then he warned the talmidim not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

  44. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 21 From that time on, Yeshua began making it clear to his talmidim that he had to go to Yerushalayim and endure much suffering at the hands of the elders, the head cohanim and the Torah-teachers; and that he had to be put to death; but that on the third day, he had to be raised to life.

  45. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 22 Kefa took him aside and began rebuk ing him, "Heaven be merciful, Lord! By no means will this happen to you!" 23 But Yeshua turned his back on Kefa, saying, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, because your thinking is from a human perspective, not from God's perspective!"

  46. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 24 Then Yeshua told his talmidim, "If anyone wants to come after me, let him say `No' to himself, take up his execution-stake, and keep following me. For 25 whoever wants to save his own life will destroy it, but whoever destroys his life for my sake will find it.

  47. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 26 What good will it do someone if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or, what can a person give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of Man will come in his Father's glory, with his angels; and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct.

  48. Matt 16 Whole Chapter 28 Yes! I tell you that there are some people standing here who will not experience death until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom!" END
