  5. Federal Laws in HR • Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 • Prohibits discrimination against people between 40-70 and restricts mandatory retirement

  6. Federal Laws in HR • Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973 • Prohibits discrimination based on physical or mental disability

  7. Federal Laws in HR • Equal Pay Act of 1963 • Requires men & women be paid the same for equal work

  8. Federal Laws in HR • Family & Medical Leave Act of 1993 • Employers with 50 or more employees to provide up to 12 weeks unpaid leave for family (childbirth, adoption) or medical reasons

Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations • FSGO of 1991 • "FSGO set minimum standards in order to lessen penalties if an organization is found responsible for misconduct • Although voluntary, many companies comply with FSGO, which requires implementation of a code of conduct, ethics training, high-level oversight, establishment of an ethical culture and periodic measurement of program effectiveness
