  6. Read each sentence, looking for words that give clues about the audience. Explain what the clues tell you about the people who might be reading the information. • One of the most important things to remember about a bike is where the wheels are. • The audience probably does not know a lot about bicycles. • If the levers are not compatible with linear pull brakes, be sure to use caliper or canti brakes. • Be sure to turn left at the fork in the road, steering clear of the bridge to the right.

  7. Read this sentence from The Wright Brothers: A Flying Start. Then answer the question. “Orville tried other money-making schemes, such as collecting bones for fertilizer plant, gathering old wood and metal for a junkyard, and even putting on a circus.” What does the sentence tell you about the audience for the selection? On lined paper: Suppose you paint pictures. How would you describe what you do to a group of first graders?
