  1. HOW DO SHADE TREES AFFECT temperature OF AREAS ON OUR PLAYGROUND?

  2. QUESTION • How do shade trees affect temperature of areas on our playground?

  3. Purpose • The purpose of my investigation is to determine if the shade trees affect the temperature around our playground. This is important to know because let’s say you just ran a mile, but your not at your house ,but your near a park . The park has a bench that you want to sit down on. One is in the shade and one is in the sun. You would want to know which is cooler so you won’t be so sweaty.

  4. HYPOTHESIS I HYPOTHESIZE THAT SHADE TREES WILL EFFECT THE TEMPERATURE AROUND MY SCHOOLS PLAYGROUND. I believe this because the shade and the tress will block the sun, and there will be no sun shining to make it hot . The shade trees will at least make the temperature go down, and it will get cooler.

  5. PROCEDURE

  6. MATERIALS THEMOMETER SHADE TREES

  7. Variables • RESPONDING: TEMPERATURE • MANIPULATED: PLACE STANDING • CONSTANT: • AMOUNT OF TIME STANDING IN SUN • AMOUNT OF TIME STANDING IN SHADE • METHOD OF MEASURING TEMPERATURE

  8. DIRECTION 1. GATHER MATERIALS 2. MEASURE TEMPERATURE. RECORD. • MOVE INTO DIRECT SUN. STAND FOR 3 MINUTES. • MEASURE WHAT TEMPERATURE IS UNDER THE TREE. RECORD. • REPEAT STEPS 2-4 USING DIFFERENT AREAS. • REPEAT STEPS 2-5 FOUR MORE TIMES.

  9. DATA CHART

  10. CONCLUSION • My hypothesis was correct. Shade trees did effect the temperature in direct sunlight and standing in the shade. The average temperature in the direct sun was 12.6 degrees Celsius. Standing under a shade tree, the average temperature was 10.2 degrees. If I had to do this project again I would not change nothing.
