  3. What is the Pennsylvania 4-H Council? A group of 4-H youth selected to represent their regions, in a leadership role, at the state level. Council members are the official spokespeople for the state 4-H youth program.

  4. What do Council members do? • Promotion • Serving the Pennsylvania 4-H • Giving through service • The Leadership Conference

  5. What do Council members do? • Promotion, Promotion, Promotion • Talk to legislatures • Public appearances at community events • Workshops with civic groups • Media promotions • News paper articles • Radio spots • TV appearances

  6. What do Council members do? • Giving back to Pennsylvania 4-H • Judging contests • Doing workshops • Camp Counselors • Boards and Committees • Hosting and Facilitating events • County/Regional Presentations • Leadership activities • Pitching in…

  7. What do Council members do? • Statewide community service project • Design all aspects of project • Pledge individual service hours • Presented at 4-H Capitol Days and closed at the State 4-H Leadership Conference

Expectations of Council members • Time Commitment • Attend 8 of 10 meetings • 6 face to face meetings • 4 conference calls • Complete 10 of 12 monthly reports • Attend Training Weekend & Summer Leadership Institute • Attend State 4-H Achievement Days and State 4-H Capitol Days • Attend either Farm Show or Ag Progress Days • Promotional Appearances as called upon

Selection of Council members • 16-18 years old • Must be a member in good standing • Willingness to take the next step in the leadership journey • Success with county and state level events • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills • Comfort in groups of all sizes and being in the spotlight • Feels comfortable with taking initiative
