  1. Wisconsin State 4-H Youth Leader Council (YLC) “To represent Wisconsin 4-H at the state level, provide leadership, and work in the interest of Wisconsin youth.”

  2. What is YLC? • YLC is the WI State Youth Leader Council • It’s comprised of representatives from the 6 different districts and an officer team.

  4. Qualities of YLC members • Leadership in club and county • Good communication skills • Good public relation skills • Responsibility • Positive role model • Positive attitude

  5. Why Should I Apply? • Gain Leadership at State Level • Grow in your speaking and leadership skills • Become more confident in yourself • Meet kids from all over the state • Have FUN!

  6. What does YLC do? • YLC meets 6 times a year. • 3 Face to Face • 3 Teleconferences • YLC also assists with: • WI 4-H Foundation Board with Fundraising • WI State 4-H Youth Conference

  7. Yearly YLC Activities

  8. Fall Forum • Elections are held here, then we have our first meeting • Here YLC wraps up the year before and starts planning for State Youth Conference in June • YLC will then has a post-fall forum teleconference within one month

  9. Spring Retreat • Spring Retreat is centrally located within the state during the spring • YLC plans everything for State Youth Conference, including crowd warmers, games, skits and much more • We then have a post-spring retreat teleconference within a month

  10. WI State 4-H and Youth Conference • This is our Largest event held in June • During conference YLC helps take delegates to their activities, lead assemblies, and assist with recreation

  11. Conference Continued • At our business meeting, officers are elected for the upcoming year. • We also plan for Fall Forum. • After Conference, there is a Post-Conference teleconference within a month.

  12. WI 4-H Foundation Board • YLC helps the WI 4-H Foundation Board with their fundraisers because the board sponsors YLC • Golf Outings • Governor's Meat Auction

  13. Golf Outings • There are two golf outings • Northern • Southern • At these events, YLC members set up, sell raffle tickets, and talk with golfers.

  14. Governor’s Meat Auction • The Governor’s Meat Auction is held at the State Fair in August. • YLC helps set up, encourages bidders and runs products between the auction and fridges.

  15. Applying for YLC is as easy as 1…2…3… • Print off an application form at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/4h/youth/leadership.cfm • Ask two people for letters of recommendation • Save the date for Fall Forum where elections are held

  16. When Do I Apply? • Completed 8th grade but not completed 11th as of January 1st • Normal YLC terms are two-years, unless one-year terms open up • Forms must be sent to the State 4-H Office by Sep 1st

  17. What Should I expect after I apply? • Officers and Advisors of Wisconsin State 4-H Youth Leader Council select a slate of candidates by district. • Once you’re selected, you are invited to attend Fall forum, where you will speak in front of your district and answer questions. • Attending this caucus will be voting delegates • Results will be announced at the Fall Forum. • Newly elected Wisconsin State 4-H Youth Council members will take office at the Spring Retreat, but are strongly encouraged to stay for the meeting following elections at Fall Forum.

  18. YLC in the Future • In the future, we hope that YLC becomes a household name like the State FFA Officers • YLC has an integrity in the council that we want to keep • And most of all….we want to promote 4-H while having fun!
