  1. The Ethnic Division I Cor. 10:32

  2. Biblical Ethnic Groups • Jews • Gentiles • The Church

  3. Jews • II Kings 16 (first mentioned) • The word Jew means: a Jehudite (i.e. Judaite or Jew), or descendant of Jehudah (i.e. Judah) • Yehuwdah (yeh-hoo-daw‘) celebrated; Jehudah (or Judah), also of the tribe descended from the first, and of its territory: • Jesus was a Jew (Jn 4:9)

  4. The Jewish People • Mordecai, of Benjamin, was considered a Jew (Es. 2:5) • We can see the term Jew eventually extended to all Israelites.

  5. Gentiles • Gentile means a Hellen (Grecian) or inhabitant of Hellas; by extension a Greek-speaking person, especially a non-Jew: • That would mean even the Samarians would be considered Gentiles. • Therefore, people are either Jews or Gentiles

  6. The New Testament Church • A people who are neither Jew nor Greek • Gal 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

  7. A Great Nation • Gen 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

  8. Abraham • The promise of God to Abraham and his seed. • Abraham had more children than Issac (Gen. 25:1-2) • Therefore Israelites are descendants from Abraham through Issac. • Issac had two sons (Esau and Jacob), so only through Jacob come Israelites. • Jacob named was changed to Israel: A prince with power with God. • Not all descendants of Abraham are Israelites.

  9. Adoption • Rom 9:4-8 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
