  1. Fallingwater By: Kelly Lain Fallingwater Fallingwater

  2. Fallingwater is a house by Frank Lloyd Wright that is built on a waterfall. It was originally made for Lillane, Edgar Sr., and Edgar Jr. Kaufmann.

  3. The Kaufmann Family • They were a wealthy family who lived in Pittsburgh • They had Fallingwater built to escape the Pittsburgh pollution. • They owned a department store called “Kaufmanns” (now known as Macys) • Fallingwater was their weekend “getaway.” • They expected Fallingwater to have a view of the waterfall, not to be built on a waterfall. • Edgar Kaufmann Jr. handed Fallingwater over to the WPC (Western Pennsylvania Conservancy) in 1963.

  4. Frank Lloyd Wright • He was asked to build Fallingwater. • He was born on June 8, 1867. • He designed Fallingwater to be in harmony with nature. • He was voted “Best American Architect of All Time.” • He only used 4 materials to build Fallingwater: sandstone, reinforced concrete, steel and glass.

  5. Fallingwater • It might be the most unique house EVER! • Wild animals live near it. Trees surround it. Water swirls underneath. Huge boulders rest at its feet. • Completed with a guest or service wing in 1939. • It was very modern then and is still now! • More than 4.5 million people have visited Fallingwater since it opened in 1964. • It was the weekend home of the Kaufmanns from 1937 until 1963 • Edgar Kaufmann Jr. handed Fallingwater and its grounds over to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Center in 1963.

  6. Here are some quotes: “Unquestionably the most famous private residence ever built.”-Bruce Pfeiffer, Director of Frank Lloyd Wright Archives “Best all time work of American architecture.”- poll of members of the American Institute of architecture Designated a “Place of a lifetime”-by National Geographic traveler

  7. My site is of interest because it was built by Frank Lloyd Wright (a very famous architect) and it is a very unique house built on a waterfall. • Fallingwater is located in Mill Run which is a rural wooded area outside of Pittsburgh in southwestern Pennsylvania. • Built in 1935 and voted best all time work of American Architecture. • Located in Stewart Township, Fayette County, Ohiopyle, Southwestern PA. • My impression of Fallingwater was that it was very cool to be built back in the 1930s and it is still more modern than some of today's architecture. • When I was at Fallingwater I learned about Frank Lloyd Wright and his architecture. • I would recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in architecture and wants to be an architect when they grow up.

  8. Origami Dog • Use a square of paper. • Place a square of paper on the table so it looks like a diamond.Fold the left point to meet the right point. • Unfold. • Fold the top point down to meet the bottom point. • Now there are two layers. Fold the top layer up a little bit, making a tiny triangle for a mouth. • Fold both the side corners down to the dots to form the ears, as shown. (The ears will cover part of the face.) • Draw a face.
