  2. Genesis 1 – The Creation Story • God was pleased, It was good. • Humans given responsibility, • naming and looking after animals • Looking after earth • Populating earth

  3. In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. No plant or shrub had yet sprung up, for Yahweh God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the soil. Moisture would well up from the earth and water the surface of the ground.

  4. Yahweh God formed man from the soil of the ground.

  5. And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life

  6. And man became a living creature.

  7. Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, and there he put the man he had formed. Yahweh God caused to sprout every tree that is pleasing to look at and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

  8. Yahweh God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden to look after and maintain it.

  9. Yahweh God commanded the man

  10. From the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky.

  11. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, every bird of the sky, and every animal of the field. But no suitable helper was found for the man.

  12. Then Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man

  13. And as he slept, Yahweh God took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

  14. And from the rib which Yahweh God had taken from the man...

  15. ...he made a woman, and brought her to the man.

  16. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed

  17. The Fall -Adam and Eve • Sin enters the world when; • Eve tempted to eat fruit and to disobey • Made both Adam and Eve question God

  18. The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for the knowledge it could give, and she took fruit from it.

  19. The eyes of both them were opened, and they knew that they were naked.

  20. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves loincloths

  21. They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

  22. Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, 'Where are you?'

  23. Yahweh God made leather garments for the man and his wife, and clothed them

  24. Therefore Yahweh God sent him away from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.

  25. He drove the man away and stationed cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

  29. God will always accept/forgive. This can cause problems.. • Sin not taken seriously • No need to be sorry • Makes forgiveness seem automatic • Could keep repeating sins • No encouragement to change • Doesn’t take seriously the death of Jesus for sin

  30. Following the teachings of Jesus • The parable of the Good Samaritan • “Love your Neighbour” treat people they way you wish to be treated • Justice, Equality, Fairness – “Kingdom of God”

  31. The Good Samaritan: Jesus Teaches About Caring for Outcasts A Jewish man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho
