  3. Thesis and Topic Statements • Thesis Statement: • Answers The Big Question and lists examples to be explained in your paper • Last sentence in your introduction • Topic Sentences: • First sentence in each body paragraph • Tells which example is the topic of that paragraph

  4. Revising and Editing 1. Eliminate contractions: can’t=cannot; wouldn’t=would not 2. Eliminate opinion statements a. Examples include: I think…, I believe… , My thoughts are…, You may think … 3. Type out numbers that are less than 100 4. Eliminate phrases that are not academically professional Examples: A lot get(ting)/got(ten) sort of kind of
