  1. Using EasyBib to create a works Cited Rhonda Samuels Roberts Library EDM 595—A Spring 2011

  2. Choose a Topic and begin to look • Once you have a topic that is broad enough that you must research to find out more, but not too broad that you would have to write a full-length book to cover it, begin to look at BOOKS, MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, and RECOMMENDED WEBSITES related to your topic. • The resources you ACTUALLY USE are what will be used to make your Works Cited.

  3. Holocaust Research project • FIVE sources are required: • TWO books • ONE online Magazine and/or Newspaper • TWO Internet sources • These will be what you use at EASYBIB.com to make a Works Cited. HERE WE GO . . .

  4. What is a works cited page? • A listing of the sources you ACTUALLY read and USED to write the paper OR create a project. • Information is listed ALPHABETICALLY by author and includes the title, publication, name of the database or website, its URL address, etc. depending on which source.

  5. Easybib.com--Registration • Click on REGISTER. http://www.easybib.com/register • Sign in by using the EASYBIB key. http://www.easybib.com/register#register_form • Click to CREATE NEW PROJECT and name it HOLOCAUST. • Now you are ready to input information from your sources. • REMINDER: The default key when you enter the site is always for an ONLINE resource, so you have to choose the correct resource you will be citing.

  6. Where do I begin? • You will visit the library for several days in order to search for your materials. • Since you need information from several different sources, you can begin looking for any of the types you will need. • Once you find a source, spend a little time SKIMMING to see if this is something you can actually use. • NOW, you are on your way. . .

  7. WebSite Entry • U. S. Holocaust Memorial Museum http://www.ushmm.org/ • Use the EDUCATION menu and select FOR STUDENTS. • Scan the list for your topic or one related to your topic. EXAMPLE: Einsatzgruppen article http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005130

  8. Example #1: Article from USHMM • Go to your website and search for your article. • Skim the article FIRST before you decide!!! • Print it out so you’ll have a copy to read; then go ahead and plan to place it in your PROJECT at EASYBIB titled HOLOCAUST. • Highlight the URL at the top and COPY the ENTIRE ADDRESS. • Open the EASYBIB window and prepare to use AUTOCITE. • For today, we’ll use the U. S. Holocaust Museum website to search for our article that can be EITHER one of your online sources.

  9. Book Title Entry • EASYBIB has an AUTOCITE for book titles as well IF these have been published in more recent years. • By using the ISBN number located on the BACK of the TITLE PAGE, many times you can get the entire entry set up already. • HOWEVER, as in the case with the example shown, sometimes you have to make adjustments and corrections.

  10. Example #2: Book Title • After SKIMMING the CONTENTS page and seeing that the book is divided into sections on the STORY, the LEAFLETS, CONCLUSION, and DOCUMENTS, you should find what section, pages, etc. you might need and XEROX these. • Be sure to also XEROX the TITLE PAGE—FRONT and BACK so as to get the author, the full title, the publication information, and if you are lucky the ISBN number. • If you have the ISBN, as we do for The White Rose, we will put those numbers in and see what happens?

  11. Online Newspaper Entry • EASYBIB has an AUTOCITE for MOST online entries BUT . . . • PROQUEST is one that does not. We have purchased the HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS database which helps you go back to the actual time of the events. (It is possible to log-in from home). • Copying and pasting the URL DOES NOT work, but the information is fairly easy to input into the appropriate boxes as you will see . . .

  12. Example #3: Online Newspaper • Both PROQUEST’S HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS and EBSCOHOST, which is free through the Alabama Virtual Library, are thorough, SCHOLARLY sources to use to search for this type of information. • PROQUEST is the one we will use. At school, you may go to www.proquestk12.com/myproducts. ***At home, you must have the user name and password. • Because you are using an ONLINE NEWSPAPER source, you must use the DATABASE tab to document this source on EASYBIB. • At SOURCE TYPE use the pull-down menu and select the top choice—ARTICLE PUBLISHED BY DATABASE.

  13. Online Newspaper(continued) • You will need to put the correct information in the boxes for EASYBIB to put it in the correct format. Look at the example I have Xeroxed for you. • You do NOT put “quotation marks” around the TITLE as you normally would because EASYBIB will do it for you. • Write the AUTHOR’S NAME as it appears in the article and the DATABASE you used—PROQUEST. • TWO DATES are required: the publication or most recently updated posting AND the date you ACCESSED the information. • Then paste the URL into the box.

  14. How Do I turn it into a works cited page? • As you have added entries or sources, the program automatically places it in the correct order. • Use the SAVE AS WORD DOC button to print out. • The COOLEST PART of this program is that since you can log on and use from home after you register, then you have access to it from anywhere and can add to the list if necessary. • DON’T FORGET to delete any sources that you DID NOT USE, but remember that you need FIVE for the final paper.

  15. Good Luck!andThank you 
