Ext – How many words do you know that mean destroy? • Learning Objectives • To know why deforestation happens. • To understand why people don’t stop deforesting the rainforest. • To be able to consider different perspectives

  2. Look at your sheet. • Cut out each of the pictures, titles and descriptions. • Match the correct picture to the correct title and description. • Put your hand up to have your work checked by a teacher. • Stick the correct cards in order in to your book.

  3. Task You have been given a list of statements about deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. Work with your partner to categorise these into cause and effect. For example, 80% of the Mahogany sold in the UK comes from Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest. This is a CAUSE. It is a reason why the Amazon is being cut down (i.e. deforested).

  4. Court case: We are to hold a court case in class as to the worst impact of Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.... Each group will be allocated a group of people who cause deforestation. Each group will have to state why they are not so bad, and also accuse other groups as to why they are worse.
