  3. Planning Objectives • Link plans to complement each other • Establish early and efficient contact • Provide SAR services with up-to-date information

  4. Planning Objectives • SAR/emergency services available in ships area of operation • Aids passenger vessel acting as a SAR facility / On Scene Coordinator

  6. General Requirements • Does not replace detailed plans of company or SAR Service • Contain basic information • Controlled copies • Written in working language(s) and English • Periodic Exercises

  9. DATA PROVIDERS • Not necessary to hold plans at all RCCs • Uses global contact point • SAR Data provider holds plan on behalf of SAR services • Ship can not act as own SAR Data Provider

  10. SHIPS NOT USING DATA PROVIDERS • Write plan in conjunction with SAR service • Plan may be electronic • Copies distributed to ship, company and SAR services

  13. Keeping up-to-date • Updating and auditing same as ISM Safety Management System • Responsibility of ship, company, SAR service and SAR data Provider • SAR Data Provider to ensure SAR Co-operation Plan Index is updated.

  16. What is Mass Rescue? • Man made or natural disaster • Exceeds the normal capacity available to search and rescue authorities • Rare compared to normal SAR operations. • Use resources from multiple organizations

  17. Who’s in Charge? • Multi-agency • Multi-jurisdictional • Multi-Mission • International response

  18. Incident Command System • Management tool • Does not take control or authority away from SAR services • Relieves the SAR system of co-ordinating non SAR missions
