  2. The Big Four • Wrote the majority of the peace. • Wilson: America • Clemenceau: France • Orlando: Italy • George: British

  3. British/Dominions Approach • Removing the German Fleet • Supporting the League of Nations • Ensuring French Security • Balance of power • Settling territorial contentions • Ensuring US happiness in order to protect Canada.

  4. French Approach • End up alienating English and American sides. • By far the most aggressive: • Weakening of German military • Skeptic about the 14 Points • "Mr. Wilson bores me with his fourteen points", complained Clemenceau. "Why, God Almighty has only ten!"

  5. American Approach • Extremely welcomed by the European people in hope of a new age. • League of Nations • Fourteen Points • Self determination • Aid Europe and get countries back on track

  6. What were the 14 Points? • Overall peace, where diplomacy shall proceed frankly instead of war. • Freedom of the seas • Removal of economic barriers • Armament reduction • Open-minded colonial claims • Evacuation of Russian territory • Restoration of Belgium • French reception of Alsace Lorraine • Readjustment of Italy’s borders • Austria Hungary should be renewed • Balkan determination • Turkish sovereignty • Poland • League of Nations

  7. Balkans and Asia Balkans Japan • Self determination • Large amount of problems with land grabs and differing ethnicities. • Racial Equality Clause • Secure power in Asia • A lot of territorial claims: • German colonies • Disputed Chinese regions
