What is Vulnerability: Vulnerability is term used to describe exposure to hazards and shocks What is Participatory Vulnerability Analysis: PVA is a systematic process that involves communities and other stakeholders in an in depth examination of their vulnerability and to capacited them accordingly. Preparedness + Response <> Development

  3. Process of PVA • Situation Analysis of Vulnerability: Review of relevant information (Vulnerability) PVA team and team mobilization (Action Plan) Focus group discussion (Schools) Past experiences Present Status Analysis of vulnerable groups (Gender, age, ability, ethnicity, livelihood etc.)

  4. Process of PVA 2. Analysing Causes of Vulnerability: Vulnerability Mapping Design instruments, checklist, Guide questions Meetings & Discussion with the students Time-line and Trend analysis

  5. Process of PVA 3. Analysis of Community Action: Capacity Analysis Seasonal Calendar Venn Diagram Coping Mechanism (Past History) Adaptation External support.

  6. Process of PVA Drawing Action from Analysis: Action plan with proper responsibility Action Groups (response Teams) Getting result (Preparedness Status) Trained Groups Increased Capacity

Participating PVA by ALL • To reach out most vulnerable and affected people and ensure benefit. • A gender balance team to bring psycho- social issues. • Establishing linkage between emergencies and long term development. • Experience from everybody is very much important. • It will bring out the risk reduction measures to face future vulnerabilities.

  8. General Recommendations: • Local facilitator should be engaged • Making PVA process not one-off event • Require high level of commitment • PVA facilitator should try to probe into the issues of the backward, excluded and deprived. • PVA Timing- must suit community calendar.
