  1. Unit 9 lesson 12 great review on graphs!

  2. Bar graph • Compares data that is countable

  3. Double bar graph • Compares two sets of data in one graph

  4. Frequency table Keeps track of how many times things occur… used to create other graphs (histogram)

  5. Histogram • Compares the frequency of the data • Bars touch

  6. Line plot • Shows how data groups together at certain points Favorite Day of the Week Mon. Tues. Wed. Thurs. Fri Sat Sun = 2 people

  7. Line graph • Shows change over time – prices, temperature • Used when investigating trends

  8. Venn Diagram • Shows data sorted into categories, and shows if they overlap or fit into more than one category Girl Students Boy Students Students Age 12

  9. Circle graph • Compares to the WHOLE! • Percentages out of 100% • To find how many surveyed add up the numbers!

  10. Quick Check: Match Up! Compares data that is countable Compares the frequency of the data Bars touch Keeps track of how many times things occur… used to create other graphs (histogram) Shows change over time – prices, temperature Used when investigating trends

  11. Quick Check: Match Up! Compares two sets of data in one graph Shows data sorted into categories, and shows if they overlap or fit into more than one category Compares to the WHOLE! Shows how data groups together at certain points

  12. Which graph BEST represents the data? The data isn't showing change over time so line graph wouldn’t work 

  13. Which graph BEST represents the data? A sports magazine survey 40 readers to see how many hours of exercise they get each day. They survey found that the group of readers gets between 1 and 7 hours of exercise a day. Looking at frequency, not comparing to the whole

  14. Which graph BEST represents the data? Range of data on the chart… not categories!

  15. Which graph BEST represents the data? A weatherman records temperature every hour over the course of a day. Change over time!!!

  16. Which graph BEST represents the data? A doctor wants to know the percentage of her patients that have blue eyes, brown eyes, or hazel eyes. Comparing to ALL patients!

  17. Which graph BEST represents the data? Ms. Fletcher wants to know how many campers at the horse farm like to ride English, Western or both. Wants to see the overlap!

  18. Which graph BEST represents the data? Agora teachers want to know how much time their student spend studying each week. They give the students a survey and find that most students spend 3-5 hours studying. Wants the frequency and has ranges!

  19. Which graph BEST represents the data? A camp wanted to figure out what the best activities were to offer to boys and girls. They gave a survey on 5 different activities and recorded how many boys and girls voted for each activity. Comparing boys and girls, two sets of data!!!
