  1. - Part 2 -In The Light This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

  2. BIG IDEA: In Christ Our Darkness is Exposed and His Light Overcomes! 5This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 2:5-10

  3. BIG IDEA: In Christ Our Darkness is Exposed and His Light Overcomes! 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1 John 2:5-10

  4. Propositional statement: Jesus is Light • Light SymbolizesFlawless Perfection • Psalm 104:2 (NKJV) 2Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. • Matthew 17:1–2 (NKJV) 1Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

  5. Propositional statement: Jesus is Light • Light SymbolizesFlawless Perfection • Light InvadesDark Spaces • Light shines direction into our misdirection Psalm 119:105, 105Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. John 8:12 12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

  6. Propositional statement: Jesus is Light • Light SymbolizesFlawless Perfection • Light InvadesDark Spaces • Light illuminates hope in darkness Isaiah 49:6, 6Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

  7. Propositional statement: Jesus is Light • Light SymbolizesFlawless Perfection • Light InvadesDark Spaces • Light illuminates hope in darkness Matthew 5:14–16, 14“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

  8. Propositional statement: Jesus is Light • Light SymbolizesFlawless Perfection • Light InvadesDark Spaces • Light exposes dark places in our heart Ephesians 5:8–14 8For you were once darkness, but now you are lightin the Lord. Walk as children of light9(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather EXPOSE THEM.12For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”

  9. practical implications:Fellowship in the Light Requires Walking in the Light (6-7) 6If we saythat we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Statement #1—If We say we have fellowship with Him, A) BUT walk in darkness A1—We lie A2—We do not practice Truth B) BUT Walk in the light B1—We walk in the realm that He is already at B2—We have fellowship with other believers B3—We are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ

  10. practical implications:Fellowship in the Light Requires Confession of our dark spaces (8-10) 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Statement #2—If We say we have no sin A1--We deceive ourselves A2--The truth is not in us BUT…If we confess our sins B1—God is faithful and just to forgive B2—to cleanse us from all unrighteousness Statement #3—If We say that we have not sinned A1--We make Him a liar A2--His Word is not in us

  11. BIG IDEA: In Christ Our Darkness is Exposed and His Light Overcomes! To live in the light is to come into the sphere where God himself is to be found, or rather to live in the same way as God himself… As soon as a person does this, however, he will become conscious of his sin; the very thing which separates him from God is shown up in the light. What is he to do? He may simply dodge back out of the circle of light into the darkness because he knows that his deeds are evil, and he does not want them to be shown up, nor does he want to be separated from them (John 3:20). Alternatively, he comes, sin and all, into the light, and to his amazement discovers that the dark blemishes disappear. The blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses from sin.” (I. Howard Marshall, The Epistles of John)
