REGISTRATION DATES • 11th Grade (Class of 2014) teacher signature days – January 18th, 19th, and 20th registration form collection – February 6th, 7th, and 8th • 12th Grade (Class of 2013) teacher signature days – January 18th, 19th, and 20th registration form collection – February 9th, 10th, and 13th Registration instructions are available on the guidance website http://seneca valley.schoolwires.net/shs (select the guidance tab)

  7. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • 24 CREDITS • GRADUATION PROJECT • PSSA Specific requirements are listed in the Program of Studies ~ refer to the Seneca Valley Graduation Requirements and the Grade Level Course Requirements sections

  10. GRADUATION PROJECT • Includes four components: a research paper, related project, a portfolio, and an oral presentation • Must successfully complete all four components to fulfill graduation requirement

  11. PSSA • Pennsylvania System of School Assessment • Test taken during eleventh grade • Must attain a score of Advanced or Proficient in the areas of Reading, Math, and Writing • Science Test • Retest is available for seniors who failed to achieve this performance level

Seneca Valley CYBER & ARTS PROGRAM • Provides credit towards graduation along with an earned letter grade - will be included in QPA calculations • Students may be enrolled full-time on-site, full-time at home, or as a supplement to traditional classes • Program description and available courses are located in the online Program of Studies • Online cyber application must be completed along with the registration form if choosing a cyber course

ACADEMICALLY ADVANCEDCOURSES • Academic weight is available beginning in 11thgrade • AP & CHS (full weight) – Honors (half weight) • Weight is an add-on to the base QPA • Weight formula includes a divisor that increases as opportunities to take weight increases – allows for a fair QPA distribution for all students • Select weighted courses carefully to ensure a consistent add-on weight advantage • Academically Advanced courses information available on the Program of Studies

QPA EXPLAINED • Non-Weighted Class vs Weighted Class • Base QPA + Add-on = Weighted QPA • Full-weight = 0.25 and Half-weight = 0.125 • Add-on weight is calculated using a formula with a divisor • Divisor grows each semester weight is available in 11th & 12th (1st sem = 1, 2nd sem = 2, 3rd sem = 3, 4th sem = 4) • Add-on weight is adjusted as QPA moves through semesters

  28. CAREER PATHWAYS • Planning guide utilizing the Bridges career program • Links Seneca Valley curriculum to the 16 National Career Clusters • Provides suggestions for elective and vocational-technical education opportunities • Information listed in the Program of Studies

ENGINEERING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM • ECP provides comprehensive knowledge and understanding of standards within the engineering field • No set sequence of courses needed to achieve ECP Certificate • Advanced Math and Science courses recommended • Technology Education courses recommended • Cyber courses are available • Engineering focused Graduation Project required • Additional information and course recommendations available on the ECP link in the Senior High page under “PROGRAMS”

  30. REGISTRATION FORMS • Complete all demographic information • Indicate special scheduling requests, cyber requests, vocational-technical program, or cooperative education (seniors only) options • Provide post-secondary plans • Obtain teacher signature after discussing options

REGISTRATION FORMS • Make a selection from prescheduled courses and indicate traditional or cyber number • Schedule any failed or postponed graduation credits • Select a minimum of 7.0 credits • A lab science course requires 1.4 credits • Choose courses supporting future plans and a challenging program through graduation

REGISTRATION FORMS • Review course descriptions for prerequisites and corequisites • Include a completed Advanced Placement application with the registration form • Arrange auditions if required • If selecting a cyber course – complete the online cyber application • Complete the substitute section

REGISTRATION FORMS • Students may be scheduled for a Reading and/or Math Strategies course • based on individual performance on standardized assessments • may replace an elective choice or a study hall • First year vocational-technical requests require a completed application • Cooperative Education requests (seniors only) - Cooperative Employment Theory (#0601 or #5601) on schedule and complete a 4.0 credit schedule • Student and Parent/Guardian sign the completed form

SCHEDULE CHANGES • Course request changes can be made through the end of the school year June 15, 2012 • CHOOSE CAREFULLY – schedule changes will only be considered for the following situations: • REPEAT A FAILED CLASS • REPLACE A STUDY HALL WITH CLASS • MECHANICAL ERROR • Three day add/drop period each semester

  35. JUNIOR POST-SECONDARY PLANNING • Planning meeting held in the Spring • Student and parent/guardian invited to discuss future plans and goals • Review graduation credits • Finalize senior course selections • Discuss post-secondary testing and admission requirements

  36. TESTING OPPORTUNITIES • PSAT – once a year • SAT – offered seven times a year • three times at Seneca Valley • prep classes available • ACT – offered six times a year • two times at Seneca Valley • ASVAB – once a year • ADVANCED PLACEMENT – once a year

  38. NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER • Register early within the junior year • Must register to be eligible for division I or II • Provides specific guidelines for QPA and college entrance exam requirements • Online registration • Some school require the NAIA

  39. TRANSCRIPTS • Check for accurate demographic information • Cumulative QPA – weighted/non-weighted • Class rank • Check for missing or incorrect grade information • Test Scores (ACT/SAT) – student option
