  6. The False Doctrine Stated “The truths Jesus spoke about the kingdom, however, do not constitute commands to be obeyed by Christians. The commands Jesus gave during His lifetime were the Law of Moses.” James Johnson Bible Newsletter (p. 2, para. 4) Vol. 1, No. 1, Apr 1999

  7. The False Doctrine Stated “The things Jesus taught about the Law of Moses during His earthly ministry do not regulate us since they have passed away (Heb. 8:13).” James Johnson Bible Newsletter (p. 2, para. 3) Vol. 1, No. 1, Apr 1999

  8. The False Doctrine Stated Conclusion: Today we are under none of the commands spoken by Jesus! Answer: John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you

  16. JOHN (Matt. 3:2, 11-12) “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” “He who is coming…” JESUS (Matt. 4:17, 23) “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” “Preaching the gospel of the kingdom…” Kingdom and Messiah Preached Before the Cross

  17. Jesus Preached the Coming Kingdom • Many misunderstood, Jno. 6:15; Matt. 11:12-13 • How could this be if Jesus was teaching LOM? • Jesus preached: “Believe in the gospel”(Mark 1:15) • Belief comes from hearing (Rom. 10:17) • Therefore, Jesus must have been preaching the gospel, not the Law of Moses!

  18. Jesus Preached to Gentiles and to JewsMatthew 4:12-17 • But the Law of Moses was not given to the Gentiles (Deut. 5:1-3) • Jesus preached the same message to Jews and Gentiles, Matt. 4:23 • Jesus was preaching the gospel, not the Law of Moses!

  21. Why this Doctrine? • An attempt to remove the binding authority of what Jesus taught on divorce and remarriage • So that it does not apply to all people today • So that people may remain in sinful remarriages • So that marrying one who has been put away is not adultery – in spite ofMatthew 5:31-32 • So that remarriage after putting away for a cause other than fornication is not adultery – in spite ofMatthew 19:9

  22. MOSES Put away for “uncleanness”(Deut. 24:1-4) Remarriage allowed Adulterers killed (Lev. 20:10) JESUS Put away for cause of fornication (Matt. 19:9) One remarriage approved; All other remarriage adultery Divorce and Remarriage Not the Same!

  23. JESUS “…let not man put asunder.” (Matt. 19:6) “except for fornication and marries another … adultery.” (19:9) PAUL “wife is not to depart…husband not to divorce…” (1 Cor. 7:10-11) “Remain unmarried or be reconciled” (1 Cor. 7:11; Rom. 7:2-3) Divorce and Remarriage SAME
