  1. Welcome to the Goyt class! Helping your child to read.

  2. Jolly Phonics • Jolly Phonics is a fun way of learning sounds. • Each letter sound has an action. • So far we have learnt, s a t p i n m o c k . • We practise them every day!

  3. Digraphs and trigraphs • Later we will be learning as Year 1 are, 2 letter and 3 letter sounds. • Digraphs are aiaree or eriengnketc • A trigraph is as in igh in high or ear in tear.

  4. Phonics lesson • We play games such as: • Charlie Chaplin • Flick and Twist • Sound bibs • My turn, your turn • Noughts and Crosses

  7. Segmenting and Blending • We have already started to segment and blend with the sounds we have learnt so far. • We use our fingers to segment. • We use a swish to help us blend! • Children sometimes find it hard to blend the last sound. e.gpin becomes pit / pid /pig

  8. Segmenting and Blending to Read • Strategies we use: • Tracky finger • Our phonics • Split a word • Trapping • Picture clues • If it didn’t make sense read it again

  9. Tricky words • Tricky words are words that can not be segmented or blending. • They just have to learn them by sight. • So far we have learnt, I and a, to. • Later we will add words like, the, noetc.

  10. Things that will help • Practise makes perfect!!! • Segment and blend at home, on the go whenever!!! • www.alphablocks
