  1. SPA AND THERMAL TREATMENTS IN PRM :THE ITALIAN PROJECT Michele De Fabritiis _ Stefano Masiero Sergio Mariotti - Gaetano Gigante -Massimo Groppi SECTION “ THERMAL REHABILITATION” OF ITALIAN SOCIETY OF PRM (SIMFER)

  2. REHABILITATION & SPAin ITALY IN THE LAST YEARS THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT EMERGENCE OF REHABILITATION TREATMENTS AT VARIOUS ITALIAN SPA RESORT

  3. FAVORABLE FACTORS • CLIMATE • PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL EFFECTS OF THE MINERAL WATER • HEALTHY AND RELAXING ENVIRONMENT

  4. RATIONAL BASES THE SYNERGISM ESTABLISHED BETWEEN SPA THERAPIES AND PHYSICAL ENERGIES & REHABILITATION TECNIQUES IS SO WELL KNOWN …..

  5. …THAT IT REPRESENTS ONE OF THE MAIN POSITIVE ARGUMENTS REGARDING TO THE BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING REHABILITATION PROGRAMS IN SPAS

  6. CONSEQUENTLY ALSO FOR THE PRESENT FAVORABLE ELEMENTS IT RESULTS SUITABLE TO OUR SPAS TO CARRY OUT REHABILITATIVE TREATMENTS

  7. Materials and methods1° step • TO BETTER QUANTIFY AND QUALIFY CURRENT SITUATION REGARDING REHABILITATION AT ITALIAN SPAS WE HAVE COLLECTED WITH A SURVEY SOME DATA IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE RANGE AND TYPES OF REHABILITATION TREATMENTS CARRIED OUT

  8. Results DATA OBTAINED FROM 43 SPAS • THE KIND OF CONDITIONS MOST COMMONLY TREATED WITH COMBINED SPA TREATMENTS AND REHABILITATIVE PROGRAMS ARE

  9. ORTHOPAEDIC RHEUMATOLOGICAL NEUROLOGICAL GERIATRIC PNEUMOLOGICAL VASCULAR UROGYNECOLOGICAL SPORTS CARDIOLOGICAL PATHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS

  10. ORTHOPAEDIC RHEUMATOLOGICAL RESPIRATORY NEUROLOGICAL CONSULTANT PHYSIATRIST 95% OF SPAS 65% “ 48 % “ 67% “ results

  11. Evidenced Limits from our survey • RELATIVE LACK OF PRESENCE OF PHYSIATRIST • IN ITALIAN SPAS, IN SPITE OF THE NUMEROUS WORTHY ATTEMTS , RESEARCH HASN’T CONCRETELY DEVELOPED ALTHOUGH THERE IS A STRONG NECESSITY OF : • EFFICACY • QUALITY • SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION • SUITABILITY

  12. CONSEQUENT PROPOSAL FROM OUR SECTION • WITH A SPECIALIZED REHABILITATION UNIT MANY SPAS CAN OFFER COMPREHENSIVE REHABILITATION TREATMENTS , THUS BEING ABLE TO ASSUME THE ROLE OF PROPER REHABILITATION CENTRES FOR THEIR CORRESPONDING AREAS

  13. GOAL 1 IN THESE CONDITIONS • THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF RUNNING REHABILITATION PROGRAMS IN DAY HOSPITAL OR HOTEL RESIDENCE

  14. Goal 2 • IN PARTICULAR CASES WHICH DO NOT REQUIRE CONTINUOS HEALTCARE THIS SETTING PROVIDES A REALISTIC ALTERNATIVE TO INAPPROPRIATE HOSPITALIZED REHABILITATION

  15. CONCLUDING • SPA THERMAL RESORT MUST CONCRETELY ACTIVATE AND EQUIP ITSELF IN ORDER TO PLAY SUCH ROLE IN REHABILITATIVE FIELD , BOTH FOR OUT-PATIENT AND RESIDENTIAL

  16. NEEDS FOR THESE GOALS • REHABILITATIVE TREATMENTS MUST OFFER THE HIGHEST GUARANTEES OF • RELIABILITY,QUALITY • SPECIALIZATION • THE THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITY MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY A REHABILITATION TEAM THAT MEETS THE STANDARD REQUIRED ,IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH FAMILY DOCTOR, HYDROLOGIST AND OTHER REQUIRED SPECIALISTS

  17. Ending pointIN THESE CONDITIONS • THERE WOULD BE POSITIVE RESULTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE THERMAL AREA WITH THE ADDICTION OF REHABILITATIVE ACTIVITY TO THE TRADITIONAL ONE • PRM WOULD FIND A CONCRETE POSSIBILITY FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT IN SPAS

  18. Conclusion • IN SPITE OF THE NUMEROUS WORTHY ATTEMPTS TO QUALIFY AND MEASURE THE RESULTS OF THE REHABILITATION ACTIVITY WITH SPECIFIC EVALUATIONS’ SCALES THE RESULTS NOWSHOW THAT • USER’S SATISFACTION IS PERHAPS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT
