    2. Define the Problem Formulate the specific question you are interested in answering and compare current studies to see what conclusions have been made to date. Think about the implications of your research BEFORE you conduct it.

    3. Classify the Variables Independent Dependant Control Potential Extraneous Variables Provide operational definitions

    4. Select the Statistic Make a table of your design and determine the results you wish to calculate and explain Develop explanations of your results both if you do confirm and if you do not confirm your hypothesis How does your study contribute to the body of knowledge about behavior in a meaningful way?

    5. Plan the Method Write the method section including: Research participants How many do I need? Should I run them individually or in groups? How long will it take to run? Do I need to set participant restrictions? Should I set any criteria for eliminating participants? Apparatus, materials or instrument Arrange for equipment and back up Procedure Am I comfortable with the actual administration of my study to my participants?

    6. Conduct the Research Pilot test the procedure Trouble shoot for confounds Schedule participants Randomize participants Assign proper duties to team members

    7. Analyze the Results Compute the statistical analysis Determine statistical significance or no significance Determine acceptance or rejection of the hypothesis

    8. Draw Conclusions About Relationships Between Variables Evaluate main effects Evaluate interaction effects Explain how you obtained the results

    9. Communicate the Results Write your APA style report Prepare your poster Rehearse a verbal presentation about your study Consider presenting it at a psychological convention

    10. Tips You can vote a researcher off the team Everyone participates in everything! Plan for technical failure Reserve rooms early Get consents early Be your own participant first Always be there
