  7. Meet the Teacher • Mrs. Ellen Masters • 4th year at Berlin Intermediate • B.A. in Economics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and B.S. in Elementary Education from Salisbury University. Working on M.Ed. at Wilmington College. • Teach reading, math, and social studies.

  8. OurSchedule • Reading 8:00-10:00 • Math 10:00-11:30 • Recess 11:35-11:50 • Lunch 12:00-12:25 • Specials 12:30 – 1:27 • Social Studies/Science 1:30-2:25

  9. Reading/Language Arts • Houghton Mifflin Reading Program • Organized by 6 themes • Interactive Reading – 45 minutes – grade level materials • Guided Reading – 45 minutes – student level materials • Language/Spelling/Writing – 30 minutes

  10. Accelerated Reading Program • Students select accelerated reader books to read and test independently • I require 4 books each term, 2 before midterm, 2 after

  11. Mathematics • Houghton Mifflin Grade 5 Program Place Value, Multiplication, Division Fractions, Decimals, Geometry, Percents Graphing, Problem Solving, Probability, Algebra

  23. Unity I dreamed I stood in a studio And watched two sculptors there, The clay they used was a young child’s mind, And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher; the tools he used Were books and music and art; One, a parent with a guiding hand And a gentle, loving heart.

  24. Day after day the teacher toiled, With a touch that was deft and sure, While the parent labored by his side And polished and smoothed it o’er. And when at last their task was done They were proud of what they had wrought, For the things they had molded into the child Could neither be sold nor bought.
