YorkShare VLE The story so far… • Dec 2004 - The University bought a VLE (Blackboard) to support student learning. • Jan 05 - Installation and testing. • July 05 to Dec 05 – Prototype courses with small groups of students. • Jan 06 – Pilots 12 departments with 1500 students – Health Sciences D105 students. • 2007 /2008 VLE available to the whole University

  9. What is a VLE? • Definition of VLE: • The term 'virtual learning environment' (VLE) refers to the components in which learners and tutors participate in online activity of various kinds, including online learning.

  10. Using the VLE on your course • The VLE will be used on: • Accessing sources of Evidence for Practice. • Social Inclusion. • It will be used for: • Course content. • Communication. • Discussion Groups • Announcements • E-mail • Module Assessment. • An evaluation at the end of the module.

Downloading Your Timetable from the student Intranet • Don’t print the whole thing – print only a page (week) at a time. • Best to download it to a computer or floppy disk and view. • To download (right click on the timetable link on the student Intranet), • Then left click ‘save target as’ - Save As box appears – save the file (my documents or floppy disk). • Locate the excel file and open. (use View and Zoom to choose 75% or 100%) • use the arrows and tabs to find the week you want. • Re-save the timetable.
