  4. Reminders • Move to a timetabled seminar/workshop if you are in a holding class (SEM0 or WSP0) • Pre-requisites: must be passed at 40% or more (not by a compensated fail) • Co-requisites: you must take these courses as well • Deadline for choosing courses 5 October 2012

  5. Management specialism • If you want a specialism, you must • Choose (at least) 40 credits at level 2 • Choose (at least) 60 credits at level 3 • Specialism details are available on the Online Undergraduate Handbook

  6. Think you might fancy a year abroad… • There are a small number of places available on the IM and IMABS programmes • You will need to be open-minded about destinations • Interested students should see Sue Fidalgo in D18 MBS East • Transfers will need to be completed by Monday 1st October

  8. And… • MBS East C11 is now a Group Study Room that can be booked via D20 • You will have to leave your student card with D20 for the duration of the booking • Available 10am to 4pm

  11. Attendance and engagement As a student I will: Attend, and prepare for, all my scheduled teaching sessions and other learning events, such as induction and meetings with academic advisors. (University of Manchester Student Charter, 2012)

Attendance and engagement • Seminar and workshop attendance will be monitored • Spot checks may be carried out in lectures • Students can be prevented from taking exams on the basis of poor attendance • If you are absent, make sure you complete an absence from class form • If you experience mitigating circumstances you must inform the Assessment and Student Support Office (D14), complete the necessary paperwork and provide evidence

Feedback Feedback comes in many forms. • Informal advice and discussion during a lecture, seminar, workshop or lab • Online exercises and quizzes delivered through the course Blackboard space • Responses to your emails and questions from a member of staff, including feedback provided to a group via an online discussion forum • Specific course related feedback sessions • Written and/or verbal comments on assessed or non assessed coursework • Written and/or verbal comments after you have given a group or individual presentation • Generic feedback posted on Blackboard regarding overall examination performance • Group and individual discussions/meetings with your Academic Advisor • Discussions and meetings with your Programme Director To get meaningful feedback you must engage in your education.

  14. Office hours • Office hours are times when academic staff are available to meet students • Please make use of this opportunity • Academic staff should display their office hours on their door

  15. Academic malpractice The University regards plagiarism and other forms of academic malpractice, such as collusion and fabrication or falsification of results, as serious academic offences. Further information about avoiding academic malpractice is available from The Online Undergraduate Handbook. Don’t cheat. It’s not worth it

  18. Academic Advisors • It is important that you maintain a good relationship with your Academic Advisor • You will be called in for an individual meeting in the next two weeks. Please attend. • If you need a reference, your Academic Advisor is the first person you should ask
