  2. Government service delivery in many remote communities is limited by lack of office space where staff can work. Government Business Centres (GBC) will provide office accommodation and facilities and may include retail and commercial space. GBCs will look different in each community depending on existing buildings and services.

Working towards new buildings being developed, owned and managed by local organisations creating wealth in the local community. • Local organisation would apply for a bank loan based on long term lease agreement with the NT Government. • Gaining private sector finance in a development on Aboriginal Land will pave the way for future investments. • In some communities, existing buildings may be used.

  4. The Government Business Centre will be located to help define the town centre. • The GBC will create opportunities for local employment in the construction of the building, the repairs and maintenance and the operation of the building. • The GBC will include the Remote Service Delivery Shopfront – the one-stop shop for government services.

Remote Service Delivery Shopfront • The Remote Service Delivery Shopfront may include: • Motor Vehicle Registry (driver licences, vehicle registration) • Fines recovery • Buy power tokens • Australia Post • Traditional Credit Union or other banking • Births, deaths and marriages (certificates and proof of identity)

  7. Next steps • Government Business Centres are planned for the 20 Territory Growth Towns. • The roll out of is being driven by: • Government agency and other demand • Community capacity and desire to undertake project • Secure land tenure • Price considerations
