  3. Book Contents Cover Reader Pages End Sheets Product Intent • Goal of Product Intent Description • Customers view of the “thing” they want to buy, e.g. Brochure, Flyer, Book, etc. • Contract Negotiation • Process Independent

  4. Product Intent • Product intent describes the “what”, but usually not the “how” • A product intent description is composed of one or more JDF “Product” nodes, with references to various intent resources. • Real JDF resources can also be referenced when further detail is needed • Together, these nodes represent a JDF “intent ticket”

  7. What the MOOSE does • What is the MOOSE? • Various applications contribute to accomplish the MOOSE role • MIS • Prepress Workflow Systems • Press Control Systems • Postpress Control Systems • What does the MOOSE do? • Intent to Process conversion and creation of the process node network

  8. Intent to Process Conversion • Figuring out “how” to produce the “what” • “what” = Product Intent • “how” = Process • Analysis of production capabilities to determine what production steps will be used to create the “what” • Determination of linkage between production steps • ExposedMedia (plates) are an output of prepress, and an input to press

  9. Gray Boxes • Incomplete Model of a Process • The MIS View of the process • It’s only important if it affects the cost! • Thus, parameters not affecting costs are not important • Exact Process execution is potentially undefined • Ordering of steps is not necessarily predefined • Detailed Work Steps may be left out • E.g. MIS knows RIPping, but not Trapping or ColorSpaceConversion
