  1. VCC-3D David Arnold and Jaime Kaminski University of Brighton

  2. Progress Final legal structure for the VCC-3D One of the deliverables of the project is to establish a not-for-profit organisation to enable us to continue to sustain some aspects of our work when the FP7 funding comes to an end in November 2012.

  3. VCC-3D CIC • A Community Interest Company has been established called the VCC-3D CIC. • Community Interest Companies (CICS) are limited companies, with special additional features, created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage (http://www.bis.gov.uk/cicregulator)

  4. Reasoning A CIC was chosen as the final legal structure because it has the following benefits: • Access to a range of funding not accessible to organisations other than charities • Does not have the rigorous requirements of a charity • Lighter touch than a traditional Ltd company Ties in with 3DC’s mission and our envisaged benefits (contract 155-56)

  5. Mission CIC mission includes: “To help and advise individuals and organisations make objects and collections available to a wider audience using 3D technology.”

  6. Summary In summary: • VCC-3D will be independent of any individual partner. • The new organisation would be jointly owned by all those partners who chose to opt-in. It would be based around the ownership of a £1 share by each partner.

  7. Activities • It will provide services for which it would charge thereby generating revenues that would be used to further develop its activities. • It will also actively seek grants and other funding • The new entity will initially use a virtual office facility at the Sussex Innovation Centre. This would ensure that all its administrative, legal and financial reporting could be handled in one package significantly reducing running costs.

  8. Preliminary web-site • A preliminary web site has been developed

  9. Next steps - funding Next steps • Two funding applications are in progress for start-up funds: • Big Lottery fund (£10k) • Heritage Lottery fund (£10k) • Need to identify possible EU sources (e.g. support action)

  10. Next organisational steps Next steps from 3D-COFORM partners • Expressions of interest from those who wish to be directors of the VCC-3D ... Before Review • Identification of share-holders Possible additional directors and share-holders • Depends upon advice and partner opinion

  11. Questionnaire • What services would your organisation like to see the VCC-3D provide?
