North and northeast: Increased water scarcity Northwest: Desertification (higher evaporation) Coastal regions: Typhoons, storm surge and long-term inundation Tibetan Plateau: Change in river flows / melting glaciers Southern China: Increase in flood frequency and magnitude; northwards spread of “tropical” disease vectors

ACCC Principles • Collaborative project – bringing together Chinese and international expertise • Climate change as cross-sectoral issue • Reducing risk by building resilience • Focus on adaptation options and planning • Focus on vulnerable groups e.g. poor communities, women & children • Knowledge-sharing with other countries

  4. ACCC Activities • Better climate science for China • Impacts and risk assessments – national and provincial: • Agriculture • Water resources • Extreme weather / disaster risk reduction • Public health • Grasslands-livestock
