  2. When is Pancake Day? • This year, Pancake Day is celebrated on February 12th. • It’s always on the Tuesday before Lent (47 days before Easter ). • It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes.

  3. Why do they eat Pancakes? • To use the ingredients they had and could not eat until Easter (fats, eggs, ...) • Pancakes use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent. Pancakes contain fat, eggs and butter.

  5. What is a pancake? It is a thin, flat cake, made of batter and fried in a frying pan. A traditional English pancake is very thin and is served immediately from the frying pan. Caster sugar (superfine sugar) is sprinkled over the top and a dash of fresh lemon juice added.

  6. What do they do? On that day it is traditional to … take part in pancake races Pancake races are held all over England. The object of the race is to get to the finishing line first whilst flipping a pancake in a frying pan a pre-decided number of times.
