  1. Farzana Lucy, Framelo Pagsibigan, Sahida Sultana KINESIOLOGY GROUP PROJECT #2

  2. The Machines Triceps Extension Biceps Curl

  3. Agonists, Antagonists, and Stabilizers

  4. Biceps Curl Exercise Machine Target Muscles Agonists: Brachialis, Biceps Brachii, Brachioradialis Antagonist: Triceps Synergists: Other flexor muscles of the fingers. Stabilizers: Anterior Deltoid, Coracobrachialis, Pectoralis Major, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus.

  5. Type of Contraction and the End Feel • From the starting position, the muscle contraction is concentric and is against gravity. Returning to the starting position is gravity assisted and slow eccentric contraction is advised. • The end feel of the biceps exercise is soft because of the muscle bulk approximation

  6. Range of Motion: • Starting ROM • 90 degree Shoulder Flexion • 0 degree Elbow Extension • End ROM • > 90 degree Elbow Flexion • Minimum required Strength: Fair + • Patients is expected to have the minimum required • strength and ROM to operate the machine properly. • Patients who does not have the minimum required • strength should do isotonic exercises • Patients could also do substitution exercises in gravity • eliminated position

  7. Triceps Extension Machine Target Muscles Agonists: Triceps Brachii Antagonist: Biceps Brachii, Brachialis, Brachioradialis Synergists:Anconeus Stabilizers: Anterior Deltoid, Coracobrachialis, Pectoralis Major, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus.

  8. Type of Contraction and the End Feel • This triceps exercise is utilizing gravity assisted concentric muscle contractions. To get better results, it is advised to do slow eccentric contractions. • End feel of the triceps exercise is hard because of the humerus and radio-ulnar approximation.

  9. Range of Motion • Starting ROM • 90 degree Shoulder Flexion • > 90 degree Elbow Flexion • Ending ROM • 0 degree Elbow Extension • Minimum Required Strength: Fair + • Patients is expected to have the minimum required • strength and ROM to operate the machine properly. • Patients who does not have the minimum required • strength should do isotonic exercises • Patients could also do substitution exercises in gravity • eliminated position such as lying supine

  10. Result of Improper Exercise.          If exercises are done in improper way individual will end up obtaining cramps and aches or in worst situation person might be even bed ridden. Also, if the weight of the machine or a substitute dumbbell is heavier than the person's capacity, he will overstretch his muscles and end up with strain and sprain of the muscles and tendons.

  11. Contraindications for Triceps and Biceps Machine Use • Inflammation of the muscles, tendons, and • ligaments • Inflammation of the joints in the shoulders and • elbows • Fractures and Dislocations • Pain
