  1. Bridge building

  2. Warren truss bridgE Dimensions Length 40cm Width 15cm Height 13cm Materials used : large Popsicle sticks Small Popsicle sticks Glue

  3. Geometric shapes used and why? • The warren truss bridge uses triangles on the sides n X's on the top • Triangles are used in bridge building because they are the only polygon that can't be squished with out changing the length of a side. Meaning it is very strong because it would take a lot of pressure to break its shape. • X's are used in bridge building because it keeps the sides of the bridge from bending in or out. It also makes it stronger by distributing the pressure around equally.

  4. The Steps to building this bridge • 1. I made a rectangle out of Popsicle sticks to the dimensions I want and glue them together. • 2. I added Popsicle sticks to the bottom as cross beams to keep the rectangle in line. • 3. I laid down a lot of large Popsicle sticks in a line an then flipped my bridge upside down n laid the bridge on the line of Popsicle sticks an then glued all the sticks on at once to create the road way

  5. This is what I made with those 3 steps

  6. 4.I took the small Popsicle sticks an glued 3 of them together to begin making the triangles • 5 I then took 2 of the 3 layered Popsicle sticks an put them in a triangle shape an attached them with two regular Popsicles an glued them connecting the 3 laid Popsicle sticks making a triangle I made 6 of those • 6. Then I glued the six triangles to the bridge 3 triangles on either side of the bridge 7. Next I made the X's n glued them together then I glued them to the top of the bridge connecting the triangles 8. Finally I put on the cross beams for the top of the bridge on

  7. The final result

  8. Advantages and disadvantages of a warren truss bridge • Advantages: • 1. The combination of triangles and X's makes it very strong • 2. This type of bridge is easily adaptable. Which means it can be changed easily to meet new requirements. • Disadvantages: • 1.it can use a lot of space • 2.it can waste a lot of materials while building it making the cost of building it go up

  9. Justification of bridge • (Q) how/why does its design support strength • (A) My design supports strength by the triangles are very strong themselves because they can't be squished easily and then the X's on top make the triangles even stronger • (Q)was your bridge made successfully? Explain • (A). My bridge was made successfully it was made to all the dimensions and matches the design • (Q)if u had to begin your bridge construction again, would you choose the same design? Explain • (A)if I began my bridge again I would choose the same design because it is a very simple design and easy to construct
