  7. Do the governor and the lt. governor have to be in the same political party? Why or why not? • No – They do not run for election on the same ticket like the President/Vice President. They run on separate tickets. Example of separate political parties: Governor Sonny Perdue - Republican & Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor – Democrat

  8. How many terms can the governor serve in the state of Georgia? • Two 4 year terms or 8 consecutive years • Note: The governor can take a term (4 years) off and then run again and serve two 4-year terms or 8 consecutive years.

  10. The governor has three classifications of power. What are the three categories? EXECUTIVE POWERS – makes sure that civil and criminal laws are enforced & appoints state officials LEGISLATIVE POWERS – sends messages & works with the GA Gen. Assembly to get legislation passed; ability to sign or veto a bill. JUDICIAL POWERS – may pardon persons convicted of crimes and appoint state justices to fill unexpired terms.
