  5. Blood • Composed of: • Erythrocytes • Leukocytes • many different types • nucleated cells • Platelets • Plasma proteins • Fluid • Helps maintain homeostasis for all cells in the body

  6. Lymph • Same general composition as blood • exceptions • plasma proteins • erthrocytes (RBC) • Used for immune function

  7. Muscle Tissue • Smooth • involuntary • lines digestive tract • Skeletal (fast twitch/slow twitch) • voluntary • muscular system • Cardiac • involuntary • Heart

  8. Nervous Tissue • Composed of neurons (nerve cells) and neuroglia (sustentacular cells) • Neuron • cell body • dendrites (receive impulse) • many per cell • axons (send impluse) • 1 per cell • Synapse • junction between neurons
