  4. Sex-linked inheritance • Some genes are carried on the X chromosome - Sex-linked genes • Fruit flies example • White eyed male with red eyed female = all red eyed offspring • Crossed two of the F1 offspring and ended up with 3:1 ratio - red to white (all white eyed flies were male!!!)

  5. Sex-linked inheritance • Found mostly in males • Males are hemizygous • Cannot hide recessive allele • Cannot be carriers of trait • Females can show trait • Must be homozygous recessive • Can carry trait (heterozygous) • Has nothing to do with hormones • Sex-influenced traits

  6. X-linked Traits(Human) • Hemophilia • Queen Victoria (1819-1901), clotting factors • Red-Green colorblindness • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy • affects children 3-6 years old • defective protein causes muscles to weaken
