From The Newsroom - Mission To enhance the multi-media user experience with audio, provide the reader with the subject's objective point of view, and create a new, local and national digital revenue stream scaled across the GateHouse Media properties. From the Newsroom - a branded audio program that grew in 2018 to 50+ newsrooms and now reaches 125,000+ unique people each month. Newsrooms use audio gathering tools to collect audio clips and interviews that accompany related news stories. From the Newsroom - enjoys higher than normal “unique persons to downloads ratio”(75+%) due to its embedding strategy, delivering a much higher percentage of “on-demand” listens vs. podcasting thereby maximizing CPM.

From the Newsroom - How it Works • Newsrooms gather audio for news stories and embed that audio into related news articles. • Each newsroom curates an audio program called “From the Newsroom: The Columbus Dispatch” with its own local identity and branding. There are currently 54 such programs across GateHouse Media. • Available on all major podcast platforms: iTunes, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, TuneIN and Smart Home speakers in addition to being embedded into news stories and shared on social platforms. Audio clips from each newsroom “aggregate” and are available to the national audio marketplace to be sold nationally, regionally and locally. From the Newsroom: Gathering Audio In 2018 GateHouse Media embarked on a mission to equip its top 50 markets with broadcast audio equipment and tools, along with training decks, webinars, individual trainingconference calls and site visits to provide its newsrooms with the tools and skills to produce broadcast quality audio. Tools included: • Broadcast consoles and microphones • Telephone hybrid equipment for recording interviews • Audio editing software and training • Handheld high quality MP3 recorders • The GateHouse “Gathering Audio” training deck provided to newsrooms can be found HERE

From the Newsroom - CMS GateHouse chose Omny Studio to provide the CMS for audio hosting and Triton Digital to provide access to national advertising markets with programmatic insertion technology. The Omny /Triton combo provides: • Access to DSP’s through the a2x marketplace • Yield-Op SSP platform to create ad deals • Unlimited data/audio storage • RSS hosting and distribution tools • 1 user interface for all newsrooms for easy training • Seamless “linking” between the platforms • The GateHouse “Using Omny Studio” Training deck provided to newsrooms can be found HERE

From the Newsroom - Embedded Audio Newsrooms gather or record the audio needed, publish the clip to their own custom “From the Newsroom” program in Omny Studio (CMS) and use the following custom training decks and audio sharing tools to promote theirstory in the GateHouse news CMS. • Embedding into the “Factbox” • Embedding “Related Audio” LISTEN to the clip at right HERE

  7. From the Newsroom: Social Sharing Audio clips are also used to promote stories on social media and can easily be shared. Each newsroom has a full complement of sharable subscription tools to their “From the Newsroom” program. From The Newsroom: The Smart Home Using the Omny/Triton toolset, GateHouse Media has launched the centralized production of daily morning Flash Local News Briefings. • GateHouse custom software uploads the briefing to an FTP site • Briefs are “auto pushed” to the CMS that distributes to hard-coded embed locations in corresponding publications. • No additional ask of the digital news managers. • Briefs are automatically published to Amazon and Google smart home platforms and social media • Downloads aggregate nationally Click HERE to hear the latest News Brief from the Providence Journal

From the Newsroom: National - Regional - Local Sales Audio clips, news interviews, court decisions, press conferences and audio news reports are aggregated from all GateHouse properties into a single program entitled - “From the Newsroom: Gatehouse Media” which allows for national, targeted monetization of the collective audience while leaving each property with a branded local program and additional availability for local sponsorship sale.
