  3. Row 1, Col 1 What is a gas? In this state, particles expand to fill whatever space is available.

  4. 1,2 What is a pan balance? Scientists use this tool to measure mass.

  5. 1,3 What is a mixture? Pennies, dimes, and nickels in your piggy bank is an example of this.

  6. 1,4 What is a physical change? This type of change does not change the particles that make up matter.

  7. 2,1 What is a solid? The particles are tightly packed and move very slowly.

  8. 2,2 What are milliliters (mL)? These metric units are used to measure volume.

  9. 2,3 What is solubility? The measure of the amount of a substance that will dissolve in another substance.

  10. 2,4 What is a phase change (from solid to liquid)? A candle burning is an example of this type of change.

  11. 3,1 What is matter? Anything that has mass and takes up space.

  12. 3,2 What is density? This determines whether an object will float or sink.

  13. 3,3 What is a solvent? The substance, usually liquid, that dissolves another substance.

  14. 3,4 What is a chemical change? In this type of change, particles of one substance are changed to form particles of a new substance with different properties.

  15. 4,1 What are liquids? Particles are not as close, so these must take the shape of their containers.

  16. 4,2 What is a graduated cylinder? This is used to measure the volume of a liquid.

  17. 4,3 What is the solute? In a solution, this is the substance, usually a solid, that is dissolved.

  18. 4,4 What is a physical change? Sawing wood is an example of this kind of change.

  19. 5,1 What is adding or taking away heat? This causes matter to change states.

  20. 5,2 What is adding or taking away matter? How the mass of an object is changed.

  21. 5,3 What is crush the solute? OR What is heat the solvent? One way you can increase the solubility of a substance.

  22. 5,4 What is a chemical change? Burning wood is an example of this kind of change.
