  2. Objective for the Biotechnology Project • To be introduced to many CURRENT topics in Biotechnology and possibly other topics within Bioethics • To learn about the general mechanisms that surround the technology in question • To develop an opinion based on strong research

  3. Possible Topics • Cloning Individuals • Cloning Parts • Designer Babies • Surrogate Mother • Cryogenics (freezing of sperm/eggs to sell) • Organ Donation (Organ Donor List vs Black Market Organs) • Gene Therapy • Biological Warfare • DNA Screening (For Work) • Vaccinations • ETC.

Project Overview • Partner Picking/Research Topic Sign-up • Research your topic • Prepare research in poster format • Develop 5 questions that can answered by looking at your poster • Find an article about your topic and prepare 3 discussion questions that can be used to start a discussion in groups

  5. Part 1: Pick a Partner and a Topic • Research any topic related to Biotechnology or any Bioethical Issue that has not been covered in class. • Sign-up for your topic (first come first serve)

  6. Research Topic • Define the technology being studied • How is the technology being used? • How is it being funded? How much does it cost? • What are the intentions of the technology? • Who is the technology for? • What are the bioethical concerns behind this technology? • Provide a timeline of the progress of the technology • Find current articles of the topic in the news

  7. Poster • Be creative • Must be eye-catching • There should be pictures on your posters • Work cited needs to be attached • Must include statistics and research in an organized way (no long paragraphs…make people want to read the poster)

  8. 5 Questions • Type out 5 questions that can answered by looking at your poster. Email them to Mr. Guise

  9. 3 Open-ended Discussion Questions • Find an article about your topic and prepare 3 discussion questions that can be used to start a discussion in groups • ALTERNATIVE OPTION *** If a good article is not present… you may make a detailed case scenario and create 3 questions that would generate discussion
