What is a U.S Army? • TheUnited States Army(USA) is the main branch of theUnited States Armed Forcesresponsible forland-based militaryoperations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of sevenU.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in theContinental Armywhich was formed on 14 June 1775,to meet the demands of theAmerican Revolutionary Warbefore the establishment of the United States.
Structure • The United States Army is made up of three components: the active component, the Regular Army; and two reserve components, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Both reserve components are primarily composed of part-time soldiers who train once a month, known asbattle assembliesor unit training assemblies (UTAs), and conduct two to three weeks of annual training each year.
Regular combat maneuver organizations The U.S. Army currently consists of 10 active divisions as well as several independent units.
United States Navy SEALs The United States Navy's Sea, Air, Land Teams, commonly known as the Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy's principal special operations force and a part of the Naval Special Warfare Command and United States Special Operations Command. "SEAL" is always capitalized in reference to members of the Naval Special Warfare community. The acronym is derived from their capacity to operate at sea, in the air, and on land. Due to their reputation as one of the world's premier special operations forces, SEAL operators routinely serve in allied SOF's including the British Special Air Service, Special Boat Serviceand Polish GROM
Selection and training • SEAL training is extremely rigorous, having a reputation as some of the toughest in the world. During Hell Week, candidates participate in five and a half days of continuous training, each candidate sleeps at most four hours during the entire week and runs more than 200 miles and does physical training for more than 20 hours per day.
SEAL TEAM SIX Operation Neptune Spear On 1–2 May 2011 DEVGRU's Red Squadron undertook the covert operation codenamed Operation Neptune Spear, under the CIA's authority, and killed Osama bin Laden, leader of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, at his compound in the city of Abbottabad, 113 kilometers from Islamabad, the Federal capital of Pakistan. The attack itself lasted 38 minutes. Bin Laden's adult son, a woman, and two couriers were also killed There were no casualties to the team. The United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG), or DEVGRU, is a U.S. Navy component of Joint Special Operations Command. It is often referred to as SEAL Team Six, the name of its predecessor which was officially disbanded in 1987.
JSOC • The Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) is a component command of the United States Special Operations Command(USSOCOM) and is charged to study special operations requirements and techniques to ensure interoperability and equipment standardization, plan and conduct special operations exercises and training, develop joint special operations tactics and execute special operations missions worldwide. The JSOC is the "joint headquarters designed to study special operations requirements and techniques; ensure interoperability and equipment standardization; plan and conduct joint special operations exercises and training; and develop joint special operations tactics."] For this task, the Joint Communications Unit (JCU) is tasked to ensure compatibility of communications systems and standard operating procedures of the different special operations units.
