  4. Peace Corps began under Kennedy in 1961 "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. To those people in the huts and villages of half the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves..." — President John F. Kennedy

  6. PC Goals • Provide appropriate technical support for host country. • Allow other countries to get to know Americans and learn about American culture. • Bring back the international experience to the US, through talks like this one, so that Americans can learn of other cultures.

  7. My Peace Corps Adventure • Applied during senior year • Took summer job while awaiting result • Was accepted as a volunteer • Was offered an invitation to Kiribati Went to the library to find where Kiribati was… Accepted invitation Had wisdom teeth removed
