  2. Goals of Section/Society Educational Programs • Update members on current topics and latest technology • Offer professional networking opportunities • Make courses affordable; higher attendance • Encourage IEEE membership • Help PEs meet CE requirements

  3. Authorized Provider Status • IEEE is an Authorized Provider of CEUs through the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), and has adopted IACET guidelines and criteria for all its continuing professional development programs.

  4. Continuing Education Units (CEUs)Purpose • Measure quality of non-credit continuing education • Assure value through application review by IEEE EAB • Meet licensing board and employer CE requirements

  5. Value of CEUs • Increase attendance due to added quality and perceived value • Help engineers maintain their Professional Engineer (PE) license • Generate revenue for Sections, Societies, Chapters, or Regions • Document continuing education requirements of industry

  6. CEUs and PDHsWhat do they measure? • CEU - One CEU equals ten contact hours of instruction ina continuing education activity. One CEU=Ten PDHs • PDH (Professional Development Hour) - One contact hour of instruction or presentation.

  7. IEEE CEU ProgramBackground • First offered in 1995 • More than 1300 courses have offered IEEE CEUs • More than 17,340 participants have received IEEE CEUs • IEEE works with over 30 organizers to offer CEUs for their Section, Society, Region, and/or Chapter continuing education programs.

  8. IEEE CEU PROGRAM • IEEE CEUs first offered in 1995 • More than 17,042 participants since 1997 • 1999 - 150 courses • 2000 - 248 courses • 2001 - 213 courses • 2002 - 236 courses • 2003 - 164 courses • 2004 - 171 courses to date Courses Offered

  10. To Offer IEEE CEUs . . . • Complete application and submit with back–up course materials • Comply with IACET guidelines and Staff requirements • Provide names and contact information of participants for IEEE EAB records • All paperwork done via email

  11. CEU Fees • Course Application Fee: • $25 per single course OR $10 per course, when applying for multiple courses (submitted at the same time). • Student Fees: • $10.00 per individual/per course
