  4. Diploma in Development Leadership • Internationally recognized 19-week program • 4-week Foundations in Leadership course • Elective courses • 3-week specializations in:

Certificate Programs • Stand alone certificate programs • Spring (May – June) and Fall (September – November) Terms • Certificate programs are offered back-to-back providing the option to take multiple programs over a six-week period For example: Advocacy and Citizen Engagement, Good Governance and Social Accountability Tools and Communication and Social Media in a six-week span, By attending multiple programs participants are able to concentrate learning time and travel investment.

Advocacy and Citizen Engagement • Theoretical foundations and critical issues in human rights advocacy • Assessing organizational legitimacy and credibility to undertake advocacy • Skills in influencing public policy and mobilizing public opinion in support of social, economic and political change • Visioning; problem/issue identification; contextual analysis and power mapping; goal setting; strategy selection; issue framing and message design; media outreach; lobbying and negotiation; coalition building; assessing success

Community-Based Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding • Knowledge, skills, and attitudes to manage conflicts constructively and build culture of peace • Improving practice and policies to support sustainable peace, justice, human, and earth rights • Skills in design and delivery of formal and informal conflict transformation and peacebuilding programs

Community-Based Microfinance • Skills and strategies for linking households and communities to basic financial services • Establishing sustainable community-based microfinance organizations and initiatives • Innovative approaches which build self-reliance • Emphasis on equity and asset-building

Livelihoods and Markets • Supporting micro and small producers • Market access, input supply, policy reform, access to finance, technology and product development • Latest methodologies and practices for sub-sector and value-chain analysis, strategies, and programs • Experiences of community-based and member-owned institutions

  10. Organizational Learning and Change • Identify internal and external drivers of change • Utilize organizational strengths and assets to build strategy for organizational renewal • Build leadership skills to facilitate others through change • Create culture of learning within the organization

  11. Mobilizing Assets for Community-Driven Development • Principles and practice of asset-based approaches to community development • Methods and popular education tools to help communities map assets and identify opportunities

  12. Facilitation and Training Approaches for Community Change • Theories, principles, and practices of participatory adult education and training • How to design and implement process facilitation within the community or organization • Strategies for inter-agency collaboration and networking

  13. Community-Based Natural Resource Management • Sustainable use of natural resources for community economic development • Relationship between natural resource management and poverty alleviation • Methods, tools, and skills for collaborative management of natural resources

  14. Community Development Leadership by Women • Overcoming perceptions of gender and leadership • Building internal strength to move beyond gender stereotyping • Drawing on wisdom, skills, experiences, networks, and values to build capacity as local and international leaders

  15. Community-Driven Health Impact Assessment • Measuring impact of development policy and programs on community health • Skills in facilitating community groups through the People Assessing Their Health (PATH) process and the development of a Community Health Impact Assessment Tool

Who Should Attend • Mid-to-senior level development practitioners, with at least 5 years of experience • Candidates are generally leaders of: • National and international NGOs • Community-based organizations • Women’s groups • Co-operatives • Faith-based organizations • Indigenous people’s organizations • Voluntary organizations • Government departments • Private sector organizations
