  4. Aims of this session • To reflect upon and recap the key principles of Lesson Study • To explore the role of questioning in Lesson Study • To practice questioning strategies and share experiences of first Lesson Study Cycle • To identify ways to maximise the impact of Lesson Study Cycle 2

  5. Key Principles -Warm up and recap Discuss in your groups - which is the inaccurate statement? How can you change it to make it accurate? Put the statements in order most important to least. A) Lesson Study focuses on gathering data about student learning B) Lesson Study is supportive and challenging process to secure impact on learning C) Lesson Study is observation without criteria D) Lesson Study is focussed on the teacher E) Lesson Study encourages teachers to take risks

Questioning for challenge and development In your groups look at the different question types. • Discuss how they can be used in lesson study • Choose the 3 or 4 that you think will deliver the most challenge and impact • Come up with your own example of each type of question for use within a Lesson Study discussion

  11. Sharing experiences from Lesson Study - Trios Share learning from cycle 1 and ideas to maximise impact of cycle 2 3 roles in rotation: 1.) Questioner/facilitator – use types of questions to draw out learning and secure commitment to impact in cycle 2 (Link to coaching) 2.) Answerer – reflect and share experiences through responses to questions 3.) Observer/scribe – Capture Good questions Elements of experience worth sharing Concrete ideas and commitments to improve the process in cycle 2
