  3. The head is called a scolex. It may have hooks, suckers, or both to attach to it’s host.

  4. The body segments are called proglottids.

  5. Prevalence/Demographics Found world wide. Is on the rise in the U.S. Most common in regions where there is fecal contamination of the water and soil and where meat is eaten raw or is undercooked.

  6. Symptoms -Nausea -Muscle weakness -Diarrhea -Weight loss -Malnutrition -Abdominal pain -Passing worms sections in stool

  7. Incubation Period take up to 10 months to a year

  8. Mode of transmission Uncooked or infected meats such as -fish(fish tapeworm) -beef(beef tapeworm) -pork(pork tapeworm)

  9. Diagnosis/ Treatment -Medication by the mouth, in small doses

  10. Mortality You can die from -not getting all of the nutrients that you need to have when you eat food. This rarely happens in healthy people.

  11. Complications -Muscle weakness -Diarrhea -Malnutrition

  12. Prevention/Vaccine -Personal Hygeine -Wash hands before,after and throughout cooking -Freeze meats 12-24 hours before cooking -Cook meat all the way through
