  2. Clear “NO” Statements • Actually use the word “NO.” • Use body language that clearly says “NO.” • Use a strong serious tone of voice. • Repeat your message. • Use relationship-building statements, if appropriate.

  3. Fogging Statements • Use implied agreement or humor to stay in control of a situation. Example: Are you afraid of getting in trouble? Oh yeah – you know me – I’m chicken

  4. Delaying Statements • Saying or doing something that distracts the person or gives you more time to respond. Example: Changing the subject, changing behavior, leaving thesituation

  5. Alternative Actions • Suggesting something to do that is fun and healthy and that will get you out of a pressure situation Example: Think of an activity that would appeal to the otherperson and suggest it.

  6. Reverse the Pressure • Put the pressure on the person who is pressuring you Example: If you were really my friend you wouldn’t ask me to do that.”
