1. “The leader in CASE/CAPE and M&S” Prigent Corporation PRICE HL A World-Class Hardware Life Cycle Cost Estimating Tool PRICE HL estimates the support cost of hardware projects. It is a deterministic tool which calculates the supply and maintenance costs of a system, in function of its reliability and maintainability description, its employment and deployment, and of the support organization. Combined with the TOC Model, it allows you to cover the Whole Life Cost of a project. PRINCIPLE 1. Data acquisition Price HL requires 3 types of data: 1. Life Cycle Inputs: They are mainly hardware descriptors such as MTBF, MTTR, cost and weight of spares, cost of test sets, Maintenance Concept, etc.. All these inputs can be calculated by the PRICE HW model (PRICE H), from acquisition descriptors such as weight,complexity, quantity, etc. 2. Deployment Inputs: They are used to describe the repair and supply organisation, the Operating and Support duration, the number of deployed systems as well as their operating time. 3. Global Inputs: They are of various types and include factors such as false failure rate, TAT’s (Turn Around Times), labor rates, or Safety Stock Coefficients, to tune to get the best compromise between cost and availability. The Globals are set to defaults and can be customised. These parameters are entered into an Estimating Breakdown Structure (EBS), based on the Product Tree of the system. PRICE HL EBS PRODUCT TREE HARDWARE SYSTEM Each of the hardware elements can be described as a Unit (the box), a Module (the board) or a Part (the electronic component), and in function of the hardware description and maintenance organisation PRICE HL will select the best applicable Maintenance Concept among a list of 30. One can also impose one of them or a combination of 2 or more of them. This set of Globals is used to adjust the level of sparing in function of the required confidence level , availability and support cost of the system. It allows also to set the Test Set and staff weekly working hours and hourly labor rate. 2. Calculation PRICE HL generates various types of reports, the Detailed Cost Matrix which shows the cost breakdown, test sets and maintenance workload, Initial and Replenishment Spares breakdown and Fill Rate, availability and readiness, and the selected most efficient Maintenance Concept. These reports enable to trade-off cost and availability using the Safety Stock Coefficients,to adjust the Fill Rates, as shown on fig. f.
